I am the Community Development Worker with responsibility for Older People Issues. I support Older People who are members of the Network and Service Users to have their say on issues of Health and Social Care, to attend meetings to be involved with the planning and provision of Services. I also have a remit to increase the membership of  Older People into the Network by holding these meetings as well as going to Day Centres, Luncheon Clubs and other Older People Social Groups and speaking about the Network.

Hello.  My name is Christine and I am a Travel Supporter, working for WITS.  There are four Travel Supporters in the team.  I work mainly in the Kennet area of Wiltshire, but cover the rest of Wiltshire when needed.

The WITS service is free to the user.  I help disabled and older people with their travel needs, helping them to become independent travellers, (after initial support).  I can also help if a person has lost their confidence, and needs support to start travelling.

I help with walks and all public transport.  My clients ages range from 16 to 86, with a wide variety of needs.  I love the constant variety and challenges of this position.

I have worked for WSUN in Swindon since Aug 2007 and during this time I have taken responsibility for both older people and people with physical and/or sensory impairments. I support existing members of the Network by holding meetings in all areas of Swindon where they have a chance to express their views and concerns, whether it be a health, environmental or any other issue. To name one of many is ‘Safe and Sound’ to which several organisations are invited to explain about their services and the opportunity for computer tasting sessions and seated exercises are included which are extremely successful with the older people. Many of our members are involved in other local meetings which include planning and disability. I also visit day centres and social groups where I have the opportunity to expand the Network membership.
